Internship 12 Overview
Internship is not a typical high school class.It is a bridge between your academic world (school) and the practical world (work). This course will help bridge these two worlds by researching different types of job, what employers are looking for (pre-training), give you an opportunity to spend some time in the working world (training) and to use the experience and skills that you learned to look at your future goals (post-training).
To pass the course, you need to complete 90 hours of work experience hours.
Hours do not count until Assignments 1 to 21 are completed.
Assignment 10: Prepare for the Worksafe BC Test Go to "Assignments" under our MS Teams class and complete the Worksafe BC Practice Assignment as many times as necessary to get at least 80% on the test. There are many attempt assignments listed and they do not count for marks as they are only attempts. The actual writing of the test is the next assignment.
Assignment 11: Write the BC Test Gather Assignments 1 to 10. Double Check that you and your parents have signed and dated all of the forms where asked to do so. Then set up a meeting with your teacher. Send your teacher a message on MS Teams to organize a time. You will then hand in Assignments 1 to 10 and do the Worksafe BC Test in Person.
Assignment 12: One on One Meeting 1:1 Meeting with Career Advisor. This assignment is to be done at the same time as Assignment 11 with your teacher.
Assignment 14: Exploring Work Placements See the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177 with your potential work placement ideas.
Assignment 15: Complete Your Resume Complete a resume. Follow the example resume provided: Example Resume
Assignment 16: Write a Cover Letter Create a cover letter. You can create a cover letter for a real or made up job you are seeking. Follow the example cover letter provided: Example Cover Letter
Even if you did not have an interview, you will need to complete a thank you letter. Follow the example for a thank you letter for an interview. Thank You for an Interview Template.
Gather Assignments 13 to 18 and see your teacher again. Contact your teacher on MS teams to see them.
Assignment 19: Complete the Worksafe BC Review. It is now time to see the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177 again. You will need to complete the Worksafe BC Review. You will do this in person with the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177.
Assignment 20: Complete Training/ Placement Contract. You will be given a training plan/placement contract from the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177. You will need to complete this and hand it back to the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177. The Workplace Facilitator in Room 177 will provide this to you.
Assignment 21: Student Safety Questionnaire. Obtain a student safety questionnaire from the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177. You will need to bring this to your employer and bring it back to the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177
Only when you have handed in and Completed Assignments 1 to 21 can you start counting hours for the course.
Assignment 22: Record Your Hours Record your hours on your timesheet. The Workplace Facilitator in Room 177 will give this to you at the start of your placement. Please have your employer sign off on your hours prior to finishing your placement. The Workplace Facilitator in Room 177 will provide this form for you. Once you have completed your hours and your employer has signed the sheet, you can hand it into the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177.
Assignment 23: Work Experience Reflection. Please complete and hand in to the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177. This form will be provided to you from the Workplace Facilitator in Room 177.
Assignment 24: Complete a thank you letter for your work placement. Follow the sample template provided here: After Work Placement Thank You Letter. Hand in this form to your teacher.
Assignment 25: Update your Resume with your work placement experience and any other experiences you have gained throughout the year. Print off your updated resume and hand into your teacher.
Assignment 26: See your teacher to ensure all assignments are completed.
